Today, we return to “The Mighty Eighth,” the Eighth chapter of Romans, to see that we are liberated from death and hell through repentance and faith in the life of our Lord Jesus Christ, His death on the cross, and His resurrection from the dead. Thus, the Word of God through St. Paul in Romans 8:1-4:
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1-4 NKJV).
A prayer on this sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost:
Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.—The Book of Common Prayer
