I wanted to add a few personal words about this series. I am not keen on mere press releases for this site. Alas, sometimes the ubiquitous AI machinery that helps, informs, and occasionally changes everything from grammar and spelling (I do not use it for content) now apparently hijacks delivery times. Or is it a user error? Is the robot outsmarting the writer? No. Couldn’t be. I prefer blaming the machine.
Well, the long and short of it is this: I wanted to share how and why we wrote this and our prayer that it is of use to the Church.
A Prayer of Dedication
Our heavenly Father, Set apart these books for Thy glory and the advancement of Thy mission in the world so that souls are saved and lives transformed through the calling and equipping of chaplains. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Charlotte [January 23, 2024]——Dr. Michael A. Milton, a theologian, pastor, educator, and chaplain (Colonel, US Army retired), has recently authored a new series of six books aimed at educating and training Christian chaplains. The books serve as primary or supplementary resources for college and seminary courses, clinical training, or continuing education. These books cater to chaplains in all sectors, including the Armed Forces, healthcare, first responders, corporate, and correctional services. Two of the books use Armed Forces chaplaincy as a case study applicable to other chaplain sectors.
The Press Release from Bethesda Publishing Group
The series uniquely teaches a biblical-theological framework for the vocation and ministry of chaplains. Dr. Milton’s research and writing emphasizes chaplains as an ancient and regular order of pastoral ministers, whose callings have always been to express the Gospel in “closed systems” with a deeply personal and Christ-like incarnational presence. Milton demonstrates why chaplaincy is growing while other forms of ministry are not. The author proposes that chaplaincy is the perfect ministry expression to reach people in “a secular age” (Charles Taylor).
Each chapter of the respective books features carefully curated questions for deeper discussion and reflection, making the collection especially relevant to training using small groups. The books are available for purchase as individual copies, sets, or any combination thereof. They can be ordered through various online booksellers, Barnes and Noble, independent bookstores, and campus bookstores.
