I have always loved Palm Sunday—the delightful chaos of children processing with palms, gently shepherded by patient Sunday School teachers. The greenery is placed reverently upon the Communion Table as the congregation swells into "All Glory, Laud, and Honor." Parents smile warmly. A stray child heads for the exit. A dutiful lady from the Sunday School class chases him. This is life in the community of the Lord’s House. Yet my eyes often drift beyond those joyful faces to others in the pews whose expressions reveal quieter stories. I know some hearts are heavy, palms barely held, smiles forced more by courtesy than joy. These are the souls I yearn most to reach—the weary, the wounded, the hesitant. This longing has always driven my preaching and still compels me today.
So, this Palm Sunday, I invite you to come just as you are. Perhaps you'll discover that not all palm-wavers act from jubilant self-interest. Many wave their palms through physical and spiritual pain, yet they wave nonetheless to the One who approaches gently on a donkey's foal. He will never enter again so humbly; next time, He will arrive wrapped in celestial majesty beyond imagination or description. But on that first Palm Sunday, His humble entry into Jerusalem set in motion a week that transformed the universe—and maybe your own life, too. It certainly changed mine.
We are entrusted not merely with the story of Redemption, but an invitation to journey with Him, discovering this profound truth: "The way up is down." Welcome to our Palm Sunday message at Faith for Living.
A Palm Sunday service is here. A link to “All Glory Laud and Honor” follows.
