Our Father, Thou hast promised Thy special presence with the brokenhearted. We know that the Holy Spirit is moving amongst the inconsolable parents, the grief-stricken families and friends, the first responders, and all of those who have been impacted by the rushing flood waters at Kerrville, Texas. In our sorrow, where can we go but to Thee? We place our questions and our prayers at the foot of the cross, where mystery mingles with tears, providence with the free agency of moral creatures made in Thy image; where the Son of God cries out to His Father, unanswered, where creation trembles and goes dark, as if to cloak itself from the sight of the death of the sinless Creator, only to burst forward with a light that surpasses the energy of many suns, bringing resurrection to the crucified body of our Savior. Lord, like Thy people of old, we must admit, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon Thee.” Gather, O Lord. Console, O Father. Provide, O King. Heal, O Redeemer. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
